Aftermarket Third Row install (third Row)
Here's version 1.0 of a rear seat set up. I'm sure any individual can take what I realized and make it even better. We now know that the seat suits. I didn't post pictures but I had the cargo deck that had to be got rid of. There's an ugly hole behind the center seats that will have to be addressed.I were given uninterested in now not having a third row seat. We wouldn't use it that much but it will be nice to have when needed. I put a 3rd row into my third gen 4runner without any problems. It used to be if truth be told a a lot more basic set up than I believed it will be. I seemed for seats from the similar vendor however they don't promote them for the 4th gen. Little Passenger sells them but they're expensive.
I began measuring, I started taking a look. In the end I found out that fold and tumble seats from a Jeep Wrangler 1997 - 2002 (TJ) would fit. I bought seat belts from Seat Belts Plus as a result of I wanted an U.S. producer.
I in the beginning attempted to mount it facing out. Headroom was higher however there was once no leg room. I also idea it would be safer and the kids truly wanted it dealing with out like on the third gen. It simply didn't are compatible proper. Given that our automobiles are full body and I've seen unibody cars (Highlander) with about the same spacing in the third row, I determined to mount it forward dealing with.

The are compatible is actually just right. Somebody could most definitely design other brackets that make the bolt in process more uncomplicated.Future plans are to peer if I will reduce down the seat pivot bar where it's inserted into the brackets and use something like a reusable cotter key to make the seat simply removable.
Cosmetically, I would love to check the rest of the seats higher however that comes to a shuttle to the upholsterer. Also, I've the unsightly spot at the flooring that needs the non-cargo deck cover (58401-35010) nevertheless it it in point of fact expensive. I'll mess with the previous portions first to look if I can by some means make it work or attempt to in finding salvage subsequent time I'm in the USA.
Works now. I'll post every other updates as I be told extra from day by day use.

This stuff is extremely useful. Thank you. I'm about to buy a JC Whitney seat identical to your 3rd gen third row install. Are you absolutely positive that seat would not have labored in the 4th gen? Because the Whitney seat looks find it irresistible would width-wise and I will be able to get it used for 0.The kids that would journey back there from time to time would be 10 and 12.

The Whitney seat wasn't an choice for me because they won't ship freight using USPS. I'm overseas and that's the only way i will get mail. The best problem I see with the Whitney seat is making an attempt to mount it rear facing. The kids wanted this seat to be just like the third gen but when have compatibility it rear facing there was no leg room for them as a result of the perspective of the rear, now center, seat. That is also why the Whitney seat signifies it doesn't fit. With the 3rd row install ahead facing, the perspective of the middle seat will provide you with leg room.
The fold and tumble works smartly and leaves you room for groceries when up. My youngsters are eleven and 13 now and fit into the seat with out a downside.

I see what you are pronouncing concerning the 4th gen 2d row seat perspective affecting the JC Whitney seat. The hyperlinks to the Jeep seat and seat belts are useful. They make that seat in a black and gray as well as tan. Hopefully they have grey in inventory.I took out the carpeting and have it down to reveal ground. Note, for those people with shipment cabinets there are 2 indented plastic items made into the floor carpeting (visible in bottom proper photo). You take them out the use of a small allen wrench or something angled and rigid to slot in the holes and delicately swing out the tabs. You don't use a screwdriver and pry them out or they will wreck in half (I discovered this out the arduous way).
Lastly, looks as if your homemade plates are constituted of door hinges - is that proper?

They would most probably have compatibility again there however for old folks (like me) the biggest problem is getting there. You must fold down the center seat and then move slowly over it. Kids no problems, adults might have a topic.Quote:

No. They are just flat pieces of some kind of treated construction steel I picked up on the ironmongery shop. __________________2004 4Runner SR5 SR5 - V6, 4X4, Moonroof , JBL, Leather, Stratosphere Mica Installed Mods: Spoiler, HIR bulbs, Kenwood DNX6960 Nav, Back Window Up with Remote Mod, Rear Camera, LED Tails, Key Reminder Disable, OEM Automatic Headlights, Rear USB Ports, Seat Heaters, Aftermarket Third Row, Heated Side View ReplicateLocations: VA Reply With Quote 05-29-2013, 12:25 AM #9Member

You'll see while you check have compatibility the seat but, as I recall, the angle of the middle seat pushes the 3rd row seat in opposition to the back up to now that I feel there was simplest quite more than a foot of flooring area where you must put your ft. __________________2004 4Runner SR5 SR5 - V6, 4X4, Moonroof , JBL, Leather, Stratosphere Mica Installed Mods: Spoiler, HIR bulbs, Kenwood DNX6960 Nav, Back Window Up with Remote Mod, Rear Camera, LED Tails, Key Reminder Disable, OEM Automatic Headlights, Rear USB Ports, Seat Heaters, Aftermarket Third Row, Heated Side View MirrorLocations: VA Reply With Quote 05-31-2013, 09:44 AM #12Member

Rear seat 1.5. Can't wait to look what you come up with. Let me know if you wish to have any data from my install to lend a hand. Don't try and lower the carpet like I did. It wasn't price it. Pull out the carpet, drill your holes and mount the brackets right on best. __________________2004 4Runner SR5 SR5 - V6, 4X4, Moonroof , JBL, Leather, Stratosphere Mica Installed Mods: Spoiler, HIR bulbs, Kenwood DNX6960 Nav, Back Window Up with Remote Mod, Rear Camera, LED Tails, Key Reminder Disable, OEM Automatic Headlights, Rear USB Ports, Seat Heaters, Aftermarket Third Row, Heated Side View MirrorLocations: VA Reply With Quote 06-03-2013, 08:Fifty nine PM #15Member

Excellent level in regards to the carpet! So I received the seat as of late and it is truly properly made even supposing I wish it had the headrests. The headrests would obscure the visibility out the rear for the driver but may assist in a whiplash scenario. How did you get your hands around that phase?
Now converting your hardware to imperial - this is .5 in. x 1.5 in. bolts. and related hardware. Wait - I might persist with metric seeing as one of the vital holes in the mounting bracket is somewhat better diameter than .5 in. But not anything a drill bit can not take care of.
The step bit was once $Forty five at Sears in order that's a large no. I just checked harbor freight and can get a set of 3 step bits for .
The steel I can use for under body toughen are zinc mending straps (sears). They appear to need the least amount of machining to get to work right. One may just mod some door hinges for plates however you'll have a lot to chop.
To offer protection to the installation beneath the automobile I can hit it with some primer and rubberized below carriage spray. For the side supports I'm bearing in mind having any individual tack weld the bolts to the plates. Then the usage of building adhesive or one thing you should glue the plates to the underside so the bolts stick up during the floor and carpet. Might aid you install the seat from topside or take away it in a pinch.
One query - I will't tell from the photograph the place the seat is stowed - at the center tie down did you share a bolt with the 2 seat belt anchors?
And another - did you go with the 60 inch belts or did you cross longer?
